Klong Rangsit

During the reign of King Rama V (1868-1910), Thailand needed more space to grow rice for exporting.

The large plain in the north of Bangkok was choosen for this pupose.

An irrigation system was implemented.

It was later called "Khlong Rangsit" (Rangsit Canal System).

This land development project was the most biggest in as at day.

It covered 316,000 acres within 5 provinces and 60 man-made canals

The biggest canal is "Rangsit Prayoonsak," which connects the Chao Phraya River with the Nakhorn Nayok River.

Today, some parts of this area has been reconstructed into an urban city.

The canal system changed its duties from irrigation to drainage.

However, we still remember the old history.
